highly-skilled Sanskrit scholar in Vadakkumnathan
(Malayalam);
Iris (English) - a tender depiction of novelist
Iris Murdoch's descent into Alzheimer's Disease; and
Vasantha Balan’s award winning Veyil (Tamil)
which revolves around parenting and child development with a
poignant performance by Pasupathy were screened on 10th Oct,
the first day of the festival.
11th October featured
Oil on Water(English) - a beautiful, haunting story about
a young, creative couple set in South Africa;
Martin Scorsese's The Aviator (English) - an
amazing performance by Leonardo DiCaprio as Howard Hughes, a genius
debilitated by severe obsessive compulsive disorder; and
Aamir Khan’s directorial debut film Taare Zameen
Par (Hindi) on learning disabilities portrayed by the
talented Darsheel Safary.
The final day saw -
Hiding Divya (English) which tackles the taboo of
mental illness in the South Asian community in New Jersey;
Canvas (English), a child’s struggle to find his own identity
while dealing with his mother's troubling illness; and Mahesh’s Bhat's
hauntingly beautiful tapestry of a chapter in the life of the late actress
Parveen Babi in Woh Lamhe (Hindi).
